Hyperfiction challenges the reader not only by offering multiple paths through the text.
There may be multiple endings (or no endings at all); questions posed to the reader which, once answered, influence what the reader will encounter next; audiovisual attachments; navigable maps. In fact, as hyperfiction continues to develop, the greatest challenge to the reader may be the challenge of finding the text at all, as text-based narrative seems to diminish steadily in importance in relation to the visual and aural components of the fictions.
