Death and writing

We have already seen in the Pheadrus of Plato that Theuth is not only the god of writing, but also the god of death, and the moon.

Thus, just by association alone, writing is linked to death.
But what distinguishes another dialogue the famous Phaedo among the Middle Dialogues – and especially the Phaedrus, is also its total preoccupation with death and dying. Only in the Phaedo does Plato emphasize that he considers the philosophic life to be a long rehearsal for dying; only in the Phaedo does he deal critically, as well as imaginatively, with the fate of the soul after death; and only in the Phaedo does he depict, with all the power of his art, a noble and religious death, that of Socrates.
