Logic originates in the Greek logos--the word, or that by which the inward thought is expressed.
So what might seem at stake here is logic, the tradition of method and validity in deductive reasoning which is associated with the line: line of argument, thread of discourse, chain of reasoning.
Only the linear-hierarchical style of argument is permitted in orthodox writing today.
But tomorrow?
