Happening and rationality

The unexpected is not only a problem for ongoing activity: it also constitutes a specific problem for rationality.

Rationality is the search for causal continuity in experience and, in fact, must presuppose such continuity in its attempt to construct a coherent account of what happens. Reason must assume that all kind of events can be reduced to conditions that make the events possible. But unexpected presents itself as discontinuous, as a disruption without conditions... And unexpected is also something rational for we know it exists.
