Event

Jacques Rancière writes of Mallarme as a poet of the "event."

In Mallarme's poetry, instead of models to copy, there are numerous aspects to be grasped: not the forms of things, but events, instantaneous event-worlds, present in every ordinary spectacle on the condition that they are noticed.

At the center of Mallarme's poetry are not acts or things, but the event that allows for these to take place. Poetry must return an object or an act to a threshold within itself between appearance and disappearance so that appearance itself might be noticed or "read".
